I fell in love with weaving when I took a class in college my senior year. I didn’t need to have another art elective, but something about the class listing spoke to me and I had to sign up. Besides, it was senior year. Class started and I was instantly hooked. I spent most of my free time in the studio working on my project. In fact, I finished early enough to do a second project. Up until that point, the teacher had never had a student make more than 1 project. That class focused on fine art type weaving (not tapestry). When the class ended, I tried making a frame loom so I could keep weaving, but it didn’t really work out. So, my love affair with the loom ended for awhile.
Seven long years later, I was now married and living in another state. The desire to weave had never left me. I can’t remember now how I found it, but I found a local yarn shop that taught weaving lessons. I was in heaven again! This class taught me the joys of weaving for every day use. My project for that class was a gorgeous scarf. The other thing to come out of that class is that I bought my very first loom. Since we were living in an apartment, I decided to get a table loom. I bought an Ashford 32″ 4 harness table loom. I loved that I had a loom and was weaving, but a table loom just doesn’t quite evoke the same passion as a floor loom. So, about a year ago (6 years after buying the table loom), I ordered the treddle stand for my loom. I still dream of the day I get my first floor loom, but my current set up keeps me happy for now.
